Drain interceptors were often put in drains Pre 1940s and usually consist of a syphon and rooding point or a syhon and plunge point. They are prone to blocking because of a silt build up or wet wipes. More often they have been covered with paving or concrete and will need a drain trace to locate them.
Ground movement can also cause them to break causing a blocked drain.
If you are having problems with blocked drains caused by a faulty drain interceptor then the best practice is to remove the drain interceptor and provide a straight run for your drains.
